Injuries/Medicine/Surgery

In this blog, I will talk about the main diseases that were contaminating people, also i'll mention the actual reasons these diseases were common, and how the people took care of those illnesses. I will also try to find the reasons they decided to deal with those diseases in the ways that they did. As you can probably imagine the reasons for these things will have to do with the conditions in which the trenches were, and the locations of those trenches.

The first causes for death in the trenches were the main wounds that killed most of the soldiers were the normal war injuries. Like people getting shot in places that would kill them directly. The main causes for the diseases that people got were caused by the bacterias around the trenches since it was soo dirty, and were in tunnels, it was filled of bacterias and litle animals that were definitly not clean. One of the main problems in the trenches were the rats. Apparently some rats could get as big as cats, and at some points they would even eat bodies that were alive, but asleep. The rats started to get big when they would find piles of dead bodies and just eat them. Rats also promoted other diseases because they cary a lot of bacterias.

Since the trenches were soo far from the other places where there was medical technology and pharmacies to help them get medicine that would help the soldiers get better. Also, since one person could have one wound that would contaminate the rest of his body, or the rest of the soldiers, the most common thing was surgery which was just an amputation.

Trench Warfare Intro

Before we get into the Injuries that were common in the trenches, and the medicines or surgeries that took place to heal those injuries, we should know what a trench actually is. Trench warfare was a form of warfare in which both sides that were fighting would occupy opposite fortified fighting lines. Those lines were consisted mainly of trenches. In a trench, the armies were basically untouchable by the enemy's weapons that sent bullets, and were powered by fire powder. Also, the armies were protected from arrows if they're enemies decide to use those. Trench warfare became the basic style of fighting during World War 1 in Europe. Another advantage from using trenches was that they were only going to be worn down slowly. Wikipedia's sources tell us that Trench warfare originated when there was a revolution in firepowered weapons but that revolution was not equal to the advances in mobility.

The main advantage of Trench Warfare was for the defending side because it would take them long before they would be loosing. Both sides would create heavily-armed trench and very complex systems opposing each other along a , pro"front" which the soldiers called the front line. The area between two trench lines that were in a war would be called "no man's land"and that area had no protection what's so ever.
